Kamicon!

So! Kamicon is over and it was a blast! My only wish is that it could have lasted longer! I’m highly impressed with the turn-out this year, especially. I was at Kami the first year but missed last, and wow has it expanded in just two years! A small con still, of course, but we did great in the artist alley and everyone was so friendly and nice! The weather was absolutely perfect: warm and sunny. I couldn’t ask for a better little con to be right in my own backyard! Super big thanks to everyone who came out and to everyone who bought at the table!

On Saturday, I wore Shuichi, a last minute cosplay decision based mainly around my newly pinked hair. I haven’t cosplayed in yeeeaars and it was so much fun! Might have to pull this out again sometime really soon! I got to set up next to my darlings Kelli, Becca, Nova, and Kat, for incredibly epic fun times and excellent proximity to Becca’s kitty plushies, which I proceeded to drool over and play with most of the weekend. Saw lots of people I haven’t gotten to see in quite some time and that, plus new friends, really made the weekend. So happy.

We did really great with jewelry too, which I’d been nervous about since this was my first con introducing it. I feel a little sad that I forgot to photo the pieces before they sold, but I’m going to try not to make that mistake again. Might even get some things up on Etsy after next weekend’s con. New stickers and having lots of Kuroshitsuji art helped me out too, I think, since it’s apparently taken a major leap in popularity since a few years ago when I first did it and kept getting asked what it was haha; Good to be ahead of the times, right? :D

It’s back to the grind this week though, hopefully getting plenty of new charms made and working on stickers and prints for Sukoshicon Saturday in Auburn! I’ve never done a one-day con before, but I’m mega excited and I hope the turn-out is as fantastic as Kami was!

Thanks again, everybody, and let me know what sort of new stuff you’d like to see at upcoming cons, okay? I should probably get my DeviantArt active and put a poll or something up, haha, there’s so much I want to do!

Happy Valentine’s Day! + SPECIAL SALE COUPON

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day, lovelies! I’m not big on this day as a lovey-dovey greeting-card holiday, but I am super on board for any day that’s defined by pink and purple and hearts and candy! (Though honestly, every day is that for me lol). It is a good time to acknowledge the people you care about though, even if it’s in a not gross cooties romantic way. So, just so you know, I love and appreciate you, reader/friend/artist/internet stalker! I hope you have a wonderful day! And just to show you how much, there’s a coupon at the bottom of this entry for a discount on my site or Artist Alley table so read on!

In slightly premature celebration of Pink Day (I just decided to call it that), I made some very pink cupcakes earlier in the week! I’m quite proud of this feat due to my horrific and completely non-exaggerated lack of kitchen prowess and utter failure regarding all things cooking related. They came out great though, and nothing caught fire!

Accomplishment + “the gym” + snow!

Hey! Not too much going on this week besides trying to get some things ready for Kamicon coming up in a few weeks, which’ll be my first con of the year. It’s local, right here in town, and I’m super excited! Hopefully I can get all my stuff together in time, I’m a little nervous because it’s been so long since I’ve actually sold and so much of my stuff is old old old. It’ll be a learning experience for sure though, and fun at the very least. I can’t wait to see everybody!!

I did take a break from con prep (if it can even be called that I’ve mostly just been gluing jewelry pieces) to do a watercolor piece for a local art show. Not really a big deal, but I thought it’d be fun. The theme was “love” which is cheesy and vague at best, so of course I ended up doing something morbid haha. It came out all right though. It’s pretty and looks nice framed, even if I personally wouldn’t call it my best work. I am really quite pleased with the coloring though, and it’s really growing on me the more I look at it. Hm, so. Who knows, maybe I’ll even make a few prints of it for con and see how it goes over, even though it’s not exactly ‘anime’.

painting details
A couple of details from the painting. I’ll probably post the full image in the gallery later when I can get a good scan.

First post!

No really.

Hey, hello, hiya, and welcome, to the relaunch of NoStyleStudios, my art site and now brand new personal blog! It’s been…Okay, a long time plus some ridiculous sprinkled on top since I last had anything here but a blank construction page, but it’s a new year and I think that’s as good an excuse as any for a new start! Specifically for me, at least, the long and short kinda being that I’ve been away too long, I’ve been lazy, and I’ve been negligent of the one thing that actually makes me happy: my art. And for that’s there’s no excuses. So! As part of the ongoing WIP that’s my life, I’m making a few changes that line up with my goals for this year and one of those just so happens to be getting my website up and usable again, and making a valiant attempt to motivate myself by chronicling my creative goings on with a blog. (This is it, in case you’re behind.)

hurr durr And this is me, the awkward looking ‘tard who can’t take a decent picture to save her life. I’m a pretty shifty sort, as you can tell. Also, for those who don’t know (ie- in case somebody visits who isn’t my Mom or my roommates), I’m Heather, but I tend to go by Kit or Kitty online and at conventions. Also, sorry mom, I’m using my real name on the internet now and I realize that I’m going to be kidnapped by Anonymous internet predators and used in their unholy trollings of 4chan, but I think it’ll be okay since I come equipped with lots of highly developed self-defense skills like ‘crying’ and ‘not being fourteen’.

Uh, but anyway, I swear I was going somewhere… I like to draw. And color. And sometimes sell those drawings and colorings if people will buy them. Which is something else I’m working on this year, coincidentally (yay! topic train back on track! Take that, ADD). Being more successful with freelancing, that is. I’ve been out of the convention circuit for several years and though I’m not jumping back in, I do have plans to test the waters and will hopefully be opening commissions very soon! Art is what I really love to do, and as much fun as random retail jobs and styling hair can be, it’d really make me the happiest to make money doing what I care most about. So we’ll see. My main goal right now is really to just get the ball rolling, get myself motivated, and be productive. Blogs are good for that sort of thing, so I hear. At least I hope it will be more than my LJ, which I tend to forget about until I want to fan!spazz about something haha;; Though hey, maybe I could crosspost this crap over there and look like I’m alive, right? I refuse to even talk about my DA lol.

my journal cover It’s already been helping though, having a place to babble and make lists and record goals. This is my Visual Journal. I started it several months back as a way to keep track of my life on a day to day basis; not so much a diary but a book of goals and accomplishments. I carry it pretty much everywhere. If you can’t tell, it’s a Moleskine painted with Alistair on the cover. Not the best artistic masterpiece, but it makes me smile. Maybe I’ll post some pages from it soon, if anybody’s interested. I think it’s going to set a little bit of the standard for what I’ll be posting here, besides the site updates and random Photoshop doodles.

That’s about it, though! My big comeback debut! I know you’re impressed, applaud and send gifts if you must. And comment or email me if you have any questions or whatever at all. I’m always around, even if I’m lurking behind the tablet. See y’all soon!!
